Transaction Types

The following are valid transaction types; not all might be available through the Virtual Terminal:

  • Authorization Only – This transaction type is sent for authorization only. The transaction will not be sent for settlement until the credit card transaction type Prior Authorization and Capture (see definition below) is submitted, or the transaction is submitted for capture manually.

  • Authorization and Capture –This is the most common type of credit card transaction. The amount is sent for authorization, and if approved, is automatically submitted for settlement.

  • Capture Only – The transaction was previously authorized outside of the payment gateway and required an authorization code for processing.

  • Credit — This transaction type is used to refund a customer for a transaction that was originally processed and successfully settled through the payment gateway.

  • Offline Sale – This transaction type appears as an option in some screens; it is the same as Capture Only.

  • Prior Authorization Capture – This transaction type is used to complete an Authorization Only transaction that was successfully authorized through the payment gateway.

  • Void – The transaction has been voided and will not be sent for settlement. No further action can be taken for a voided transaction.
